Ayashi no Ceres

After Fushigi Yugi, Watase-sensei followed it up with Ayashi no Ceres. Drawing on Japanese mythology, this tale of legend wrapped around a tragic family secret (and a mysterious stranger!) was a darker tale than her previous work, but still had time for humor (Mrs Q!) and some wonderful characters. One of my early shoujo series upon getting interested in anime, and still a favorite.
